OUR FEATURE ON “THE SHELTIE STRUT"
In 1994 we purchased our first sheltie from Alfenloch
Kennels. I had always loved the Ryan O'Neil look, and I
wanted a Ryan O'Neil daughter. Ryan O'Neil (Sonny) had
recently been exported to Japan, but a grand-daughter was
available. Her name was Alfenloch Coming Up Roses
(Rumor). We have always been grateful to Alfenloch for
allowing Rumor to join our family.
Rumor was born on my birthday (I felt that it had to be a
good omen) and we brought her home at 10 weeks of age.
Although she was never shown, she had many virtues, and I
learned a great deal from her.
When she was bred to the exceptional producer, Ch.
Bonnyville Fairfax Nighthawk ROM/ROMC, she gave us our
first Sheltie Champion, Ch. Highledge Fascination. “Rumor”
was then bred to a Ryan O'Neil son, Ch. Bonnyville Goes the
Distance, and gave us the Group winning Ch. Highledge Idle
Gossip. These two half sisters helped us establish the look we
have today. We have always kept our kennel small, usually
maintaining around six or seven dogs at any given time, with
a litter or two per year. My thoughts have always been that you don't need to have a lot of
dogs to be successful.
We have bred a number of Best Puppy in Show, Best Puppy In Specialty Show, and Best in
Specialty Show winners, and we have been very fortunate to work with some very special
people who helped to promote our kennel.
Our goal is to continue to produce a line of Shelties with traditional beauty and true sheltie
type, that are sound and healthy in mind and body. We test all breeding stock for Hips (OFA)
Eyes and Thyroid.
